What we keep, what we do not.
The archive keeps a small record of those who visit it. The record is thin. It is necessary to operate the archive at all. This page describes what is kept, who keeps it, and what is done with it.
Pages you read
When you visit a page on blackmouth.world, the archive logs anonymous information about that visit through Vercel Web Analytics. This includes which page was viewed, the country it was viewed from (not the city or the address), the device class (phone, tablet, computer), and the referrer if one was passed. The record does not include your name, your IP address in identifiable form, your email, or any cookie that can follow you across other websites. Vercel anonymises and hashes the data on its way in. The archive cannot un-anonymise it.
This record exists so the keepers of the archive can know which entries are read and which are not, and for no other reason.
If you write to us
Some pages of the archive offer a way to send your email address (the Pledge field). If you submit your email, the archive stores it for the sole purpose of writing back to you, in plain unscheduled correspondence, when there is something to say. Your email is not sold. It is not given to third parties. It is not used to target advertising. You may ask for it to be erased by writing to the address below; the archive will erase it within seven days.
Embedded media
Where the archive embeds media from third parties (YouTube, Pinterest), those services may set their own cookies and may know that you visited the page on which their content was embedded. The archive does not receive that information. If you wish to read the archive without engaging the third-party services, your browser's privacy controls permit this; the archive will continue to work.
Children
The archive is intended for adult readers. The records collected here contain accounts of death, possession, and the unsolved. The archive does not knowingly collect information from children under thirteen.
Changes to this notice
The archive may revise this notice as the practices of operating the site change. Material revisions will be dated. The current version is the only one that applies.
Correspondence
Questions about this notice, requests for erasure, and other matters of the visitor record may be sent to hello@blackmouth.world.
